Minnehaha received its name from an Ojibwe legend mentioned in Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s poem, “The Song of Hiawatha.” Minnehaha means “laughing waters,” like the bubbling of the waterfall in what is now known as Minnehaha Park. The park is one of the oldest and most popular parks in the city, with more than half a million visitors every year.
