Macalester-Groveland is found in the southwestern corner of St. Paul. It is bordered on the north by Summit Avenue, Ayd Mill Road to the east, to the south by Randolph Avenue and Highland Park. The Mississippi River makes up the west border. It is named in part due to the presence of Macalester College. Lively Grand Avenue runs east and west through the neighborhood. A variety of restaurants, cafes, eclectic gift shops and specialty stores can be found here. Mac-Groveland also features the Grandview Movie Theater. Randolph Heights Elementary and Groveland Elementary are the two neighborhood public schools, though there are a number of private schools to include Saint Paul Academy and the Summit School. Macalester-Grovelend is home to the two post-secondary institutions Macalester College and the University of Saint Thomas, in addition to the St. Paul Seminary. The Macalaster-Groveland neighborhood's western border is lined by the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area, a public park with paths atop the bluffs along the bank of the river.
